Surfrider NYC Beach Cleanup at Rockaway Beach, NY

Aloha Beach Cleanup volunteers and surfriders!
Mahalo (Hawai'ian for Thank You) for all of the hard work each of you contributed to making the Saturday, May 15th Beach Cleanup at Rockaway Beach the success that it was. We moved a considerable amount of debris (that the sand rake missed) off of the beach. We painted a number of picnic and park bench supports (immediately noticed by the Rockaway Park NYC Parks Dept. Supervisor...job well done, paint crew!!!). And we made the beach look the way it should each and every day while meeting some new friends, enjoying the sunny weather and even managing to sign up some new Surfrider NYC members.
Special thanks to the members of the Marine Animals & Biology Club of Stuyvesant High School for their incredible help and interest in New York City's coastline; to NYCares for helping Surfrider NYC to bring in the numbers of volunteers that make these projects such a success; to District 32 City Councilman Joe Addabbo for providing refreshments and working so tirelessly on behalf of the surfers who live in and visit Rockaway regularly; to the staff of NYC Dept. of Parks and Rec. Partnership for the Parks who made it possible for us to help out in the midst of one of their scheduled park events and even provided the tools necessary for us to work effectively; and finally, to all the Surfrider NYC folks who came out with positive attitudes and made a tremendous difference at NYC's only surfable break!
I was really stoked to see all of the involvement from so many people on such a beautiful day and a number of you in the water following the cleanup!
