Douglas County Wave Energy Campaign

Douglas County, in partnership with the Scottish company WaveGen, has proposed to build an oscillating water column style wave energy device within the South Jetty in Douglas County. This is a place of recreational importance as it's one of the few coastal access points along this stretch of coast. It's also home to a very high quality wave, best suited for advanced surfing making it a place of regional interest. Concerns have arisen around impacts to the quality of the wave, public safety, and potential access restrictions on the jetty. Goal: Protect public access, recreational uses, public safety and preserve the quality of the surf break at the South Jetty Objectives: • Participate in the County process and influence in the interest of our goal • Continue to share report and findings from recreational use study with stakeholders and decision makers • Motivate local surfer, and other recreational user participation in on-going discussions and process • Support the County in the identification of potential alternative sites • Review technical documents on various aspects of project proposal and provide constructive feedback to the County
