Jacksonville Beach Pier Surfing Limit
Local fisherman groups want to impose a 300' limit on surfing near the Jax Pier to correlate with what was in place at the old pier. Such a limit would be extreme. A compromise is trying to be worked out to support a 200' limit as long as the following points were in place: 1. penalties imposed for each side if it was evident that the person breaking the rule was doing so intentionally and repeatedly, 2. someone riding out a wave and getting carried inside the limit would not be penalized as long as they returned to a point outside the limit, and 3. during periods of limited fishing activity at the pier that the policy would be relaxed.
