EPA Drowns Beach Program

Push for Sanbypass at Port Everglades Inlet

In order to avoid adverse impacts to the beach the chapter is promoting the Port Everglades Inlet bypassing system, which will move an annual average of 40,000 to 65,000 cubic yards of good sand to north jetty of the Port to John U. Lloyd Beach State Park. Over the long term, bypassing will help stabilize the beaches of John U. Lloyd Beach State Park, Dania Beach, Hollywood, and Hallandale Beach. The Army Corps EIS is in support of the project. The nearby condo owners are opposing the pumphouse on the northern jetty as they feel it will be an eyesore and the County is holding back the project due to these stakeholders.
