Virginia Bag Bill

Virginia Bag Bill

The DC Chapter along with the Trash Free Virginia Alliance has been working the last two years to build both public and political support for state-wide legislation to put a five-cent fee on single-use plastic and paper shopping bags. Like the bag fee in Washington, DC, proceeds of the fee will support restoration of impaired waterways in the state, including the Chesapeake Bay. This year's bill, HB 2047, did not make it out of the Virginia General Assembly, but the Chapter and their partners plan on continuing to build support for a bag fee and hope to have a new bill submitted during the next legislative session.
