National Ocean Policy Implementation

Ocean Protection

The goal of this campaign is to advance effective implementation of the new National Ocean Policy established by President Obama through an executive order in July 2010. The policy includes nine priority objectives for which action plans are currently being developed by the National Ocean Council. The Surfrider Foundation is participating in the public process to inform development of these plans to ensure they will be robust and effective. We are also advocating for federal funding and legislation to help advance the goals of the policy.

Ocean Protection

The Surfrider Foundation works to protect our ocean and address the dangers to it, today and in the future. Our Ocean Protection Initiative includes grassroots campaigns to establish and support Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), oppose new offshore oil drilling and seismic testing, participate in regional ocean planning, and ensure renewable ocean energy does not damage our ocean.
