The EPA Beach Grants programs helps coastal states and territories pay for their beach monitoring and public notification programs. These criticial public health programs provide beachgoers the information they need to know where it is safe to get into the water and identifies water pollution problems. The President's Budget for FY2018 proposes to eliminate funding for this program, and we are asking Congress to include level program funding in their final budget for FY 2018. Without this continued federal support coastal states will cut back their beach monitoring programs and some states will stop testing all together.
Everyone should have access to clean water to surf, swim and play in. The Surfrider Foundation is taking a multi-tiered approach to tackle ocean pollution problems.
