Stop the proposed Port of Palm Beach expansion of the Lake Worth Inlet!
This proposal has the potential to impact two of Florida's most beloved surf breaks- Pumphouse and Reef Road. The port channel dredging as planned will result in the Corps dumping much of the dredge material directly into the shorebreak at Reef Road. Additionally, expanded dredging of the inlet will place large cargo ships within about 100 yards of swimming areas on Peanut Island, one of the area's most beloved recreational spots. The impacted area is also one of the most critical spawning areas for several species of highly coveted game fish, including snook. This project will permanently remove 4.5 acres of seagrass and has the potential to impact listed species including: green turtle, loggerhead, Kemp's ridley, humpback whales, sperm whales, etc. All of the listed species not only have the potential to impacted by the actual blasting, but also by the indirect impacts to seagrass, water quality, and beach nesting habitat.
