Welcome to DC Surfrider

DC Surfrider is planning the sixth chapter surf trip to the Outer Banks for May 2010. We'll be spending three days and two nights at the Oregon Inlet Campground, in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Everyone is welcome to come and bring however many people you'd like. We just ask that you let us know the number of people and nights so that we know how many campsites we'll be taking up.

New this year -- the chapter will provide dinner on Saturday night to all pre-registered attendees!  To get your name on the roster for the beach dinner, carpool info, and interest in equipment rental and "lessons", go to our Google Group here: groups.google.com/group/DCSF-OBX

Campsite is $20 per night, but allows six people and two vehicles. Just bring your tent and sleeping bag and you're all set. Of course, you might want some more things like food, surfboards, ukulele, etc.

The Outer Banks is a great place to be... even if you don't surf. Bringing along your non-surfing friends and significant others isn't a problem. Go to www.outerbanks.org for an overview of the area. This is a chance to hang out and get to know everyone, swap stories, and hopefully get in a little surfing. Or maybe a lot! E-mail Mike at mike@headspringsolutions.com if you have questions or problems accessing the Google group page.

Here's some photos from a previous trip.
And some more here.

Other Important Details:
We have developed a google group, which we hope will make information sharing, organization, and carpool setups easier as well as be more secure then the standard message board. This is also requested for head count for dinner Saturday night and if you are interested in surf equipment rentals and a session with some experienced surfrider members to pickup tips and techniques. You can access it through the following link: groups.google.com/group/DCSF-OBX. This year's OBX coordinators are available to help answer questions. You can contact them through the group link here.  Make sure you visit our OBX Google Group if you need a ride or can offer anyone a ride down there.

OBX Trip Events:

  • Tuesday, May 12: Monthly Surfrider chapter meeting from 6:30pm - 7:30pm. Important information on RIPPLE followed with an OBX trip meet and greet from 8:00pm - 9:00pm.
  • Saturday, May 16: DC Chapter is providing food for a social evening event with the group. Get together to enjoy a beach fire, food, and the day's surf stories on the beach behind our campsite. You must register a week in advance in order for us to have head count. Please visit the Google Groups page to join the roster.
  • Surfing "Tips and Techniques": Our 2009 OBX coordinators will provide a session of surfing "tips and techniques" for beginners wanting to gain some surfing tips. Perry, Ryan, and Scott are very experienced surfers in addition to our experienced board members who have coordinated this trip in the past. No specific time has been set, but you can let us know if you are interested to help us coordinate location once at the OBX.

OBX Map and Surf Spots:
Scott Curtis has created a map for ideas on where to find surf spots. For those attending the OBX information session on May 12th, very nice maps will be handed out with surf spots and OBX trip coordinator contact information on the back. Don't miss out on these commemorative maps. You can click on the map below or click here to see a full size image.
