Post 4th of July Cleanup South Beach

Join Newport Chapter this Thursday, July 5th at South Beach State Park from 6:00-8:00pm for a post Fourth of July beach cleanup. There's sure to be a good bit to cleanup after all the picknicking and celebration of the holiday and Newport Chapter wants to make sure we keep it clean. Join Joe and Jes Haxel as they lead the way in our efforts to keep South Beach as clean and beautiful as possible. Bring a beverage and some snacks to throw on the grill if you like. The cleanup is part of a broader chapter effort for a Parks in Partnership Program. The local Surfriders will be "keeping watch" on South Beach, doing beach and trail cleanups, working to eliminate invasive species, installing dog waste bag dispensers and testing water quality monthly. The program was initiated by Joe Haxel, local Newport resident, surfer, fisherman, scientists and overall waterman extraordinaire. Way to go Joe!

Art of Surfing Success

A major thanks to all who contributed to the first annual "Art of Surfing" event in Newport Oregon on June 23rd! The event was a great success, generating new members and bringing out some extremely talented artists. Featured artists Ron Houchens, Yasmina Dredijer-Small, Andrew Rodman, Spencer Reynolds, Una Monaghan and Jeremy Starkey made this event successful and major kudos to all of them for their help and support. We didn't raise quite as much money as claimed in the paper, but we did make a couple hundred bucks each for Portland and Newport chapters. Thanks to all the volunteers and everyone that came out!
