Chapter Goals:

 

Fundraiser at Jack Sullivan’s

Fundraiser event with drinks and/or food, DJ, and a raffle.  Ask local businesses to donate raffle items and a local DJ to perform. 

Volunteers: Kevin Flemming, Linda Hogan, and Rachel Wilson.

 

Fundraiser at Solider Field

Work the concession stand during a football game, soccer game, or concert to raise money for Surfrider.

Volunteers: Damon Skinner.

 

Beach Cleanups

Alliance for the Great Lakes Annual September Adopt-a-Beach Event.

Saturday, September 17, 2005, 9 a.m. to noon.

Volunteers: Kim Tokarz and Rachel Wilson.

 

Unsalted Movie Screening

Thursday, July 7, 2005, 7:30 PM at Century Centre Cinema, Chicago, IL.

Volunteers: Bart Davis, Kevin Hardy, Linda Hogan, Kevin Flemming, Damon Skinner, Kim Tokarz, Matthew Wilson, and Rachel Wilson.

Community and Business Sponsorship

Set up a booth at various events to promote awareness, distribute brochures, and sign up new members.  Distribute brochures to various businesses.

Open Action Items:

 

Great Lakes Surfing Organization (GLSA): Surfrider Chicago would like to have an advertisement in their quarterly newsletter.  GLSA is currently undergoing a transition.  Once this is completed, discussions regarding the advertisement will resume.  GLSA supports our effort.

Monthly Meeting: Our meeting coordinator will schedule the July meeting with Lisa Trumbull, Bar1 Events. 

Great Lakes Aid: Planning a benefit concert for 2006.  Surfrider would like to participate at this event. www.greatlakesaid.org

Unsalted Movie Screening: Surfrider may have a booth at the screening.  Matt McClain,

Surfrider Marketing and Communications Director, is currently working on this. 

Guest Speaker: Possible guest speaker at one of our monthly meetings or members attend seminar/conference.

Street Fairs: Set up a booth at street fairs to promote awareness, distribute brochures, and sign up new members.

Summer Concerts: Set up a booth at various concerts to promote awareness, distribute brochures, and sign up new members.

Great Lakes Windfest: Send brochures to the event organizer.

Membership Supplies: Order additional membership supplies to be distributed to local businesses.

Surf Trip: Plan a surf trip for members.

Outing: Plan for a local outing to some place fun. 

  

Closed Action Items:

 

Chapter Organization: Conference call with Surfrider National office held on Monday, May 9, 2005, 6:00 PM, with Ed Mazzarella, Surfrider Director of Chapters.

Fundraiser at Wrigley Field: Wrigley no longer sponsors public fundraisers.

Web Site: The new web site is completed.  Thank you Tracey J

Lake Surfing Laws: A member indicated the kite surfers have to obtain a second level kite surfing certification in order to kite surf at the designated city beaches.  A member indicated that all floatation devices are banned from city beaches and the city beaches are legally opened from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day.

Friends of the Chicago River: Surfrider supports joint-efforts. 

Chicago Great Lakes Forever Campaign Opportunity: Surfrider supports joint-efforts.
