Momentum is growing within the US Senate to restore funding for the EPA's Beaches Grant Program that funds water testing programs at beaches across the country. 15 Senators joined Senators Lautenberg (NJ) and Nelson (FL) in asking the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment & Related Agencies to restore the funding for the Beach Act that the President's budget proposes to eliminate. Read their letter and see who signed on here: Senate Letter
Surfrider also joined together with 30 other NGOs and local government agencies to make a similar request to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee. See who partnered with us here: Beach Act Support Letter
You can help us continue to build support for the program by contacting your Congressman here.
Moving forward, we plan on trying to get similar statements of support for the Beaches Grant Program from our partners in the states and reaching out to the EPA to convince them of the importance of continuing to fund this critical public health program.
