Is the water 'impaired' in Corpus Christi Bay? - Monday September 8, 2008 5:30 PM
The Coastal Bend Bays Foundation will hold a forum to discuss a recent EPA decision to list Corpus Christi Bay as impaired. Experts from EPA, TCEQ, Texas Beach Watch, the City of Corpus Christi and public health will share their insights.
Discussions will include the EPA 303(d) listing, exposure pathways, bacteria sources and regulatory oversight. What are “indicator bacteria” and where do they come from? EPA is in the process of reviewing comments and preparing the final report regarding listing of CC Bay on the list of 303(d) impaired waterways.
The forum will be at 5:30 pm in Room 1003 of the Carlos Truan Natural Resource Center building at Texas A&M Corpus Christi (the NRC is number 18 on the map of the Texas A&M Corpus Christi campus that can be viewed at http://www.tamucc.edu/campmap.html). Social starts at 5:30 pm and the meeting begins at 6:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Coastal Bend Chapter's Official Statement on Beach Access
"The Surfrider Coastal Bend Chapter is committed to free and unrestricted
access for all people to all Texas beaches in accordance with the Texas
Open Beaches Act. Surfrider maintains that vehicle access is the key to
beaches remaining accessible and not becoming effectively private beaches.
In certain cases the Surfrider Coastal Bend Chapter supports the creation
of pedestrian areas as long as vehicle access and parking are maintained
on the beach itself as it is the case in the IB Magee and Port Aransas
Beach Parks."
