Presentation on Tortuga Dunes & Tortuga Harbor Developments

Join us for our general chapter meeting at 7:30 PM Monday, January 28, in room #1003 of the Natural Resource Center (NRC) building on the TAMUCC campus. (Click here for a map of the university campus). Representatives from Naismith Engineering will speak at our next chapter meeting about the plans for the Tortuga Dunes & Tortuga Harbor developments near Packery Channel. This is a great opportunity for concerned citizens to learn about the potential impacts of the developments, as well as steps being taken to protect the environment over the long term.

If you care about the future of the beaches and waterways on North Padre and Mustang Islands, then you need to be at this meeting. There will be a question and answer period following the presentation. The meeting is open to the public.

Monthly chapter meeting

We will be holding officer elections for 2008 at our next general meeting. The meeting will start at 6:00 PM Monday, January 28, in room #1003 of the Natural Resource Center (NRC) building on the TAMUCC campus. (Click here for a map of the university campus).

General Chapter Meeting

Our chapter is holding its next meeting at 6 PM on Monday, February 25 in Room 1003 of the Carlos Truan NRC Building on the TAMU-CC campus (click here for a map of the university campus). Come join us to learn about the latest news and events and learn more about the proposed artificial reed at Mustang Islnad. At 7 PM, we'll be showing a surf movie.

Saturday, March 29

Storm Drain Stenciling Project

On March 29, volunteers from the TXCBC and the Corpus Christi Windsurfing Association will assist the City's Storm Water Department in applying storm drain stencils in the Del Mar area. In addition, volunteers will be distributing door hangers to homes in the area to help educate the public about their role in reducing the pollution in our bays that is caused by urban runoff.

The project will take place from 8 AM to noon on Saturday, March 29. We will meet at the front parking lot of Incarnate Word Academy, 2910 S. Alameda, at 8 AM. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt, visor, taquitos and refreshments

General Chapter Meeting

Join us for our March chapter meeting at 6 PM Monday, March 31, in room #1003 of the Natural Resource Center (NRC) building on the TAMUCC campus. (Click here for a map of the university campus). At 7 pm, Ben Rutledge of the Mustang Island Reef project will be our guest speaker and will discuss current project plans for an artificial surfing reef at Mustang Island. At 7:00 PM the surf film "The Forgotten Coast" an Indonesian surf adventure will be shown. If you have ever wondered what it's like to surf some of the best waves on the planet this is the film to see! The meeting is open to the public.

Earth Day - Bay Day

Surfrider will have a booth at this event. We need volunteers for this event. To volunteer please send an email to txcbcvolunteers@yahoo.com.
Sat, April 26

April 26 is Adopt-a-Beach spring cleanup day. As part of this event, TXCBC volunteers will clean up the beach from the south side of Packery channel to the south end of the seawall. Volunteers should meet at the Padre Bali Park pavillon at 8 AM. Free lunch for volunteers. Please come help us keep our beaches clean.


May 12 -14

Sargassum Symposium

A Sargassum Symposium will be held May 12-14 at the Holiday Inn on North Padre Island. The purpose of the symposium is to bring together all parties who have a stake in sargassum and its impact on our beaches. Speakers will address the scientific, economic, and environmental impact of dealing with sargassum, including removal and leaving it in place. Representatives of local communities will present their current local solution to dealing with the problem. Several new and old sargassum removal technologies will also be demonstrated and discussed.

General Chapter Meeting

We will be holding our May meeting at 6 PM on Monday, May 19 in Room 1003 of the Carlos Truan NRC Building on the TAMU-CC campus (click here for a map of the university campus). The Executive Committee meeting will start at 6 PM - general members and the public are welcome to attend to learn about our recent activities and upcoming projects.
