Beach access moves ahead in Atlanta
November 10 2010 | Beach access, Jim's Blog,
Standup paddling is possibly the most popular trend to bubble up in recent years. It's gone well past a niche sport for people who want to have fun on tiny waves to a platform for people paddle distances, ride rivers and cruise inland waterways. Heck, now there is a sub-sub-niche group of people that (gulp) even do yoga on standup paddleboards.
There are two conditions required for standup paddling.
1. You need access to a waterway.
2. You need a board and a paddle.
One doesn't go very far with number two without number one. This was the case in Atlanta. Standup paddling was banned from Stone Mountain Park lake. Our local chapter took the campaign on, fought for access to the water and won.
