Government FINALLY embraces web

It's about time. Many times on this blog I've waxed on about the value of utilizing modern toolsets to reach large numbers of people. Thus I'm stoked to see the new administration starting to embrace these tools. President-elect Obama's team has launched Change.gov to much fanfare (I especially like that name as I previously started a company with the name Change.com).

It's the 21st century. We no longer choose from three network channels on TV. Many people have over a hundred channels on their TV. Others, including me, opted out of TV years ago and get everything directly from the 'net from sites like Hulu.

This transition is overdue, we should have made DC like the web years ago. The larger reason for all this is... democracy. We live in a country which in many ways reflects shifts enabled by the web... we are a "for the people, by the people" system of government. Thus the shift toward a "contribution revolution" is in synch with our form of government.

It's also in synch with Surfrider's grassroots approach. Look for us to continue our strides to make ourselves and our mission more reflective and built by... everyone.
