If one image could capture the international conference in Japan, this would be it.
October 13 2010 | Activism, Jim's Blog,
Over the past few days a number of representatives came together in Kamogawa, Japan to share perspectives and best practices. 30 - 35 people from Argentina, Australia, Canada Japan, Europe and the United States were present and I hope to share a few blogs in the days ahead from specific presentations and learnings.
As all Surfrider regional conferences are, this one was a nice mix of protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves and beaches.
Jared Gerritzen was there from the Pacific Northwest and, during one of the sessions, passed me the image to the left. He had literally scribbled it on the back of a napkin.
It captures the essence of who we are, what we do and how we optimize our impact when we work together.
The fact that the conference took place in Kamogawa, Japan which is fairly close to Kanagawa, Japan is also interesting as Kanagawa was the site and inspiration for the image that many have seen which depicts a heaving wave amongst the wild seas.
This "Great wave of Kanagawa" image is the inspirational source for Quiksilver's "Mountain and the wave" logo
, various hacks
and a number of posts on this blog
Nice work Jared. Amazing work and participation by all.
