When Steve Blank took this piece out of the crate for the first time, I had to step back. It was a combination of the 48 inches of gold leaf and the light hitting it at just the right angle. Then my eyes focused on the image. Floating on a sea of gold is the Tavarua boat and it's occupants looking out toward something that demands their attention.



If you've been to Tavarua, this piece will take you back to what it feels like to be in the boat looking out at one of the more challenging waves on the globe. If you haven't been there, then this will emote an other-worldly feel.

But Melinda goes well past my comments with this piece. She captures the essence of a wave that is just out of reach for many people.
