SURF CITY - A year ago this week, residents waited with the hope that their beaches would open in time for Memorial Day weekend following the cleanup of more than 1,100 World War I-era military munitions pumped ashore during a multimillion-dollar beach-replenishment project.
Now the munitions are showing up again, but so far nobody's talking about closing the beaches. more
