Necessity is the mother of (German) invention
December 21 2007 | Jim's Blog,
Days with no surf pushed surfers onland and into skateboarding.
Water shortages pushed skateboarders from styling on the street to empty pools.
Pools were lost, skateparks were closed... this birthed street skating.
Some surf/skaters took to the snow, long before ski resorts allowed them on, and birthed snowboarding.
Surfers went from logs to shortboards to get tighter into the wave... closer to the curl.
Surfers went from paddling to towing to get into waves that were as large as Rhode Island.
... and the beat goes on.
Cheers to all in Munich. When the world gives you a river... make it work.
We, at Surfrider HQ, are quite used to German ingenuity. We live with Olaf. No one here charges with the passion, frequency and intensity he does.
