Obama moves ocean policy forward
July 20 2010 | Policy, Jim's Blog,
Yesterday President Obama moved forward in the area of ocean and waterways protection. Specifically the White House announced the release of the Final Recommendations of the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force. This is a step that many of us in the ocean and coastal protection area have been waiting for.
While this may sound like DC-wonk-speak (hard to understand) it's critical because it assigns meaning and relevancy to our oceans, coasts and Great Lakes. We expect President Obama to sign an Executive Order in the next few days that will direct federal agencies to adopt and implement the recommendations which are also tied to related, supporting funding.
