Surfrider activists, from around the globe, come together
September 28 2010 | Culture Shifting, Jim's Blog,
Next week Surfrider representatives from Argentina
and the United States
will come together at this year's International Conference.
Surfrider's mission of "... protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves and beaches..."
is global. Beyond this list of participating countries, Surfrider also has representation in places like Brazil, Costa Rica, Tahiti and Morocco. At this conference we will be working to modernize our strategies, understand regional environmental perspectives, and share best practices.
I'll simplify this. Let's look at our Rise Above Plastics
campaign. That campaign has seen 17 victories in the United States and we're now pushing for statewide initiatives in California, Hawaii and Oregon. But we all know that plastics in the ocean isn't a US-only issue. It's a global issue by definition. And so we will share what's working and what's not working. We'll compare regional cultural perspectives and find ways to increase our return on investment in areas such as education-oriented vehicles
The people behind the wave, Surfrider activists and staff, are gold. They are priceless. Congratulations to the strong team at Surfrider Japan
who has organized this year's conference.
