Surfrider’s domestic chapter network hits 80
April 27 2011 | Activism,
Surfrider's mission is "The protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network."
This says we go about coastal preservation VIA our poweful activist network. Our network now spans the globe but it's strongest in the United States.
This week we reached another milestone. With the addition of our newest chapter in Baltimore, Maryland our domestic chapter network hit 80.
Check out our chapter network here.
One thing many people don't know is that we don't plant chapters. In other words all 80 have grown organically... via concerned and engaged locals. The opposite is also true, if local's interest falls away... a chapter ceases to exist (this rarely happens). Thus this number is one all of us at Surfrider are very proud of. It say that in 80 locations in the US, we're there. We're engaged.
We are stoked to be part of this group of people. They embody essence "think globally, act locally."
Of course this number doesn't tell the entire story, in the US we also have high school and college clubs. We currently have 12 and 4 of those respectively. We're also in about a dozen countries. Yet the core is the 80 chapters represented above.
I raise a glass to all those that have built this chapter network over the last few decades as they are the quintessential example of what I think of when I think of "Surfrider Foundation." I'm proud to work alongside each and every single person in the network.
