This is not a healthy coast >>> Japan

Japan is a gorgeous country. It's culture has oriented itself around the coasts for as long as the island has existed. Unfortunately some of the natural, healthy coasts in Japan have been lost due to an extensive use of concrete tetrapods. The top image was taken in southeastern Japan by Surfrider Japan's Masuo Ueda and illustrates how these structures have taken the natural beauty of Japanese coastlines away. Surfrider's vision is simple. It's "healthy coasts." Sometimes it's good to remind ourselves what that is not.
