Wave energy poll

You may have noticed over the past few months I've done a horrible job selecting questions that really tease out interesting facts about all of us... almost every month my poll has yielded everyone answering the same way. While I've found those answers heartening, I've feel like I've failed to really understand who you are and your thoughts on things.

Until last month.

Wave energy is a fascinating, young subject. I feel torn on this one myself in some ways as I understand at my deepest levels that we must, must wean ourselves off of fossil fuels. On the other hand, I fully comprehend that many if not all alternative forms of fuel will not come without some cost on our environment. The tension between those two ideas is what I am trying to capture with this, albeit overly simplistic, poll. Honestly, this poll is the first one I've felt really did help me gauge what you're feeling regarding wave energy. Looking at the results above I'd say that we're cautiously optimistic on the subject.

I'm not a big user of exclamation points but I used one on the first answer on purpose as I know there are people that want new technologies to be deployed with vigor. This poll suggests 43% of us feel that way.

Another 40% of us say yes... but slowly. This answer may be the closest one to Surfrider Foundation's policy. Truthfully, our policy doesn't advocate for wave energy outright... we aren't promoting wave energy. But our verbiage calling for adaptive management, at least in my opinion, kind of falls into this category. I'd suggest, however, that our policy probably more accurately straddles the next category which got a 5% response... "Ok, but sparsely." We exist for the protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves and beaches so the last thing we're going to do is promote anything that is at odds with that mission. Yet we're all users of energy, all day every day. Thus... the tension in this subject.

Also worth noting on this poll are the last two categories... 1% of us said "No, never." That one surprised me as I thought there would be more of us that would simply throw up a "no" and leave it at that.

The last category, 10% saying they don't know, may in fact be the most honest... I've been pretty involved in this subject over the past year and... sometimes I find myself back in this group.
