Wikipedia meets the beach

What causes red tide? What's the story with sea walls... why are they bad? What is sand accretion? As you might guess, we get a lot of questions from people living in coastal areas. In many cases people ask the same questions. But historically there hasn't been a place to direct them to figure out the jargon and technical terms. Years ago Surfrider Foundation started building a large database of beach-related terms and explanations. Now, we're flipping that model on its head and pushing it out as a wiki. Anyone connected to coastal issues now has a role in building this repository of beach information. It also allows for information to be shared in multiple cultures via its multilingual capability. Check it out here. It may just be the worlds largest library of beach-related terms.
