The Hawaii Superferry made a successful end run around the law and the Supreme Court by getting Republican Governor Lingle and the Democratic Legislature to pass a special law that gives them an exemption from an Environmental Impact Statement. The Maui Sierra Club successfully brought their case to the Supreme Court, but because the grass roots effort on Maui was not as powerful as the demonstrations we had here on Kaua’i, the Superferry will increase their trips to Maui to two a day. One trip will be at night, guaranteeing that their so-called whale spotters will not be able to see. We are optimistic that the ferry will soon go out of business since in spite of reduced fares, the ship is less that half full on most trips.

Superferry Will Not Come To Kauai!
