Until Next Year: World Oceans Month
In June we celebrated World Oceans Month and our 11th Annual International Surfing Day (ISD) – a day dedicated to celebrating the glorious ocean through dune restorations, beach cleanups, fundraising … and, of course, surfing. #ISD2015 had more events (184), participants (37,000) and countries (32) involved than ever. A whopping 24,000 pounds of trash was collected! While World Oceans Month is over, the ocean needs our help all year round. Please join our network of volunteers today in protecting and preserving our most precious resource, the ocean.

(Pitiful) Progress on the Santa Barbara Oil Spill
Oil patties continue to wash up along 185 miles of SoCal beaches. Hundreds of sea birds and mammals have died. The company behind Santa Barbara’s oil spill needs to act faster to determine the extent of the damage and restore our coast. Surfrider remains involved and will launch ‘action alerts’ for the oil-related legislation in the near future – you’ll have an opportunity to contact your representatives directly. We must all learn from this disaster.

Join #MyBag to help #BantheBag
California was meant to start a statewide ban on single use plastic bags on July 1. Then plastic bag companies from Texas and South Carolina spent 3+ million dollars on a signature gathering campaign, delaying the law until it’s voted on in November 2016. #BadNews. Now the ocean and its marine life will continue to suffer. Show your #MyBag support by rejecting plastic, signing petitions and joining our fight to keep plastics out of our ocean.
