Reduce Your H2O Footprint
Water conservation is important, even if you’re not facing a drought. Just consider these facts: landscape irrigation can account for nearly 60% of a household’s daily water usage and it takes 100 - 200 times more water to produce 1 pound of beef than it does to grow 1 pound of plant-based foods. Yes! So, in addition to fixing leaky faucets, manage water usage through the type of garden you grow and what you eat. It all makes a difference!

Success on the East Coast: Way to go Wilmington, NC!
Last week, Surfrider’s Cape Fear Chapter celebrated as the Wilmington, NC city council voted unanimously against proposed offshore drilling in the Atlantic. The Virginia Beach Chapter hopes their city council will also support initiatives against new offshore drilling. The more local success, the better! If we keep it up, the government can’t help but listen.

Celebrating Activist Lindsey Deignan
Since 2011, Surfrider has been strengthened by the tireless activism of Lindsey Deignan. As Vice Chair of the Cape Fear Chapter, she was critical in getting Wilmington’s city council to oppose new offshore drilling. She’s also passionate about the fight against plastic pollution. Lindsey, we thank you for all you’ve done and look forward to more successes in the future.

Help Us Prevent New Offshore Drilling
Oil spill are bad. Period. We were reminded of their tragic impact when 20,000 gallons of oil was sent into the ocean along Santa Barbara’s Refugio State Beach in May. Surfrider is currently supporting four pieces of legislation to prevent new drilling, improve response procedures, require automatic shutoff technology and increase safety inspections. Reach out to your reps too – we’re making progress and can achieve more together.
