Safeguarding seamounts!
The ancient islands, underwater volcanoes and deep-sea mountain ranges off the California coast support endangered fin and blue whales, white abalone, unique anglerfish and rare deep‐water corals and sponges, in addition to serving as fueling stations for migratory species. Designating these deep-sea treasures as protected areas would safeguard their ecological and cultural value and protect the richness and diversity for future generations! Get involved!

Challenging barriers
The Surfrider Foundation Georgia Chapter made their closing argument challenging a proposed 350 ft. rock groin, a perpendicular shoreline structure, on the Sea Island Spit. While intended as a solution to coastal erosion, geologists have demonstrated similar structures in the area have significantly increased erosion. The structure would also inhibit turtles from reaching the beach and result in a loss of 100 meters of sea turtle habitat. Find out more!
