Healthy waterways start with our backyards!
How do our lawns and gardens impact the health of our local waterways and beaches? Touring the Gaviota Coast
Earlier this year, Surfrider staff members visited with Santa Barbara Chapter volunteers to learn more about the environmental threats to the Gaviota Coast, which contains the last significant stretch of relatively undeveloped and unprotected rural coastal open space in Southern California. Increasing carcinogens?
The Environmental Regulations Commission voted in late July to increase allowable levels of carcinogens and chemicals in Florida's drinking and recreational waters. While these limits are intended protect aquatic life, drinking water and recreational waters, the new proposal includes dramatic increases in allowable levels of more than two-dozen carcinogens and chemicals. The proposal now heads to the EPA for final approval. Find out more to get involved!

Solutions in Eastern Long Island!
The Surfrider Foundation Eastern Long Island Chapter has been highly active in addressing key coastal issues facing the area, including water pollution and coastal erosion. Since last year, the chapter has gained momentum to address these issues with effective long-term solutions and recently hosted the second annual Two Coasts: One Ocean event in Montauk with an outpouring of support from the community.
