Engaging citizen science with Smartfin!
For more than 30 years, the Surfrider Foundation has leveraged citizen science to identify and solve for issues facing our coasts. Once again, Surfrider will be engaging the community, specifically surfers, to collect critical data in a nearshore environment using the surfboard fin, called the Smartfin. Restoring the shore for cleaner water
In July, more than 150 volunteers joined the Surfrider Foundation Sebastian Inlet Chapter and completely transformed a Florida shoreline from sod into native plant beds. The new shoreline buffer will filter runoff, require no irrigation or fertilizer, and provide habitat important to restoration! Read more about the chapter's great work!

Meet Mary Ottley, this year’s Chair of the Collegiate Surfrider School Club, the first high school club on the East Coast to join Surfrider back in 2008. Mary decided to build local support and awareness in Richmond, Virginia, for not only her local school club but also the local community! Find out more about her work, which exemplifies what the club network is all about – teaching and encouraging our future generations on how to make a difference in their own backyard!
