A Portion of the Proceeds Benefit the Surfrider Foundation
The bad news is, there were over 7,000 beach closures or postings in the United States due to polluted water in 1998. The good news is, there were over 7,000 beach closures or postings in the United States due to polluted water in 1998. How could this be both bad and good news at once?
It is "bad" for obvious reasons but "good" because we have the ability to know the water is polluted. We owe this knowledge, to water testing and the posting of results. Ocean water testing has been a Surfrider Foundation mantra for many years now. It is not time to stop, not yet.
These tests give the public the information to make healthy personal and family choices before they get wet, and maybe sick. They continue to educate the public and decision-makers about the breadth of this critical problem. It's not time to stop because stronger legislation is still needed and existing regulations still need to be watchdogged and enforced.
Surfrider will continue to make CLEAN OCEAN WATER a priority in 2000. From the updating of our Blue Water Task Force Program to the release of our new Annual State of the Beaches Report, we will continue to keep this reality in front of the public. Besides testing, we will continue to foster eco-coalitions to help solve the problem and increase our educational force in over 500 schools, releasing fresh new curriculum all year long. We will continue our efforts to seek passage of federal legislation that unifies and standardizes ocean water testing.

You can help-Please take a minute to write to your United States Senator.
                Senator
                United States Senate
                Washington, D.C. 20510

Tell your Senator that you care about clean ocean water and that you want stronger legislation such as the B.E.A.C.H. Bill (Beaches Environmental and Clean-up Act) enacted. Tell them that over 7,000 beach closures or postings in a year are a reality that we can change in the future.
