Huntington Beach Wahine Surf School

HB Wahine is Huntington Beach's newest all girl surf school, and it combines instruction for surfing with an education on how to preserve the environment on which surfers depend. While gathered together on the beach, the girls are given a copy of Surfrider's 20 Ways pamphlet - a publication that presents a list of easy ways in which every person can help keep the oceans and beaches clean.

HB Wahine is the creation of Mark Ortiz, inspired by ideas from his 7-year-old daughter, Paige, on ways to give back to the surf community. The school's mission includes the development of a completely girl centered surfing program that will educate these young surfers of tomorrow to be environmentally aware and socially responsible today. The school donates 50% of their net profits to the Surfrider Foundation and the Orange County Sheepfold Women's Shelter. In 2003, HB Wahine looks forward to starting a new program, in which each girl who enrolls receives a Surfrider membership. For more information on HB Wahine, check out their website at http://www.hbwahine.com or give them a call at (714) 317-3722.
