Surfrider Foundation Partners with ForSociety.com This past January the Surfrider Foundation announced that it had partnered with ForSociety.com, a web portal that harnesses the retail power of the internet to support non-profit organizations. Founded in December 2000, ForSociety.com is the vision of three men, Erik Giventer, Blue Maccormack and Mitch Daugherty, who were inspired to develop a way to support important causes using internet technology. Their answer was to tap into the multi-billion dollar world on online retailing. After linking to ForSociety.com, visitors to the site are first asked to select a participating non-profit organization. Guests are then free to choose from over 400 online stores, such as Amazon.com, REI.com, Expedia and The Gap Online. The last step is simply to start shopping. For each purchase that is made through ForSociety.com, retailers will reimburse the site a commission of between 5 and 30 percent. Unlike many other charity malls, ForSociety.com donates 100 percent of commissions back to the chosen charity. "We are delighted to be participating with ForSociety.com," says Kim Novick, Surfrider Foundation's Director of Development. "This is an easy way for the public to support the Surfrider Foundation's efforts to protect and preserve beach and coastal environments, while shopping for the country's top brands and services." - MW |
