October 16 and 17, 2004, the Surfrider Foundation will be hosting the 20th Anniversary Coastal Summit at the Hilton Hotel in Costa Mesa, California. Because of the positive response for attendance at this two-day conference we had to change to venue to larger accommodations.

The new venue will allow all of our chapter activists and members the opportunity to come together under one roof to listen to presentations from experts across the country. The keynote speaker for a Saturday night dinner reception is legendary oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle.

2004 Chapter Membership Drive

The Surfrider Foundation is proud to announce that Clif Bar is sponsoring this year’s chapter membership drive. Clif Bar will be donating prize packages to the top-performing chapters of this year’s drive.

The grand prize, which will be awarded to the chapter that recruits the most new members, is a surf vacation for two to exotic and breathtaking Costa Rica. This vacation package includes round-trip airfare to San Jose, Costa Rica, from Los Angeles or Miami, 7 days 4x4 car rental and 7 nights at suite accommodation at the Playa Grande Inn, located along coast of Costa Rica’s famed Nicoya Peninsula.

Clif Bar will also be awarding this year’s runner-up with a custom-shaped surfboard by Cole Simlar. Based in San Clemente, California, Cole’s shapes are renowned within the ranks of pro surfing, and helped carry Bruce Irons to victory in the 2001 Pipeline Masters.
