The Surfrider Foundation's 2000 Club

For those attending the Surfrider Foundation’s 2000 Club event, March 25th was certainly an incredible evening. The publishers of the Surfer’s Journal, Steve and Debbee Pezman, graciously opened the doors of their San Clemente office to members and prospective members of the 2000 Club. The staff of the Journal, including Photo Editor, Jeff Divine and Editor, Scott Hulet, was on hand to guide guests through the inner workings of a surf magazine that is as groundbreaking as it is timeless.

After nibbling on appetizers and listening to the soulful musical stylings of Roy Joseph, a local musician and fellow beach enthusiast, Surfrider Foundation Executive Director, Chris Evans emphasized the significance of a charitable donor group such as the 2000 Club. Through the funding possibilities created by this circle, emerges the capacity to carry out the vision of the Surfrider Foundation, at a local and national level.

Steve Pezman then gave an illuminating and insightful glimpse into the challenges and fun of creating a surf magazine. Flourishing for over thirteen years, the Journal bears witness to the revolutionary transformations within the surfing world and aptly captures the organic experience of the surfer. For the grand finale, Jeff Divine offered a visual tour through decades of surf culture, as documented by his distinctive eye and camera lens.

Special thanks to Steve and Debbee Pezman, for offering their resources and opening their doors; Jeff Divine, Scott Hulet and the rest of the brilliant staff for their extraordinary event preparation and participation; Ira Opper for donating classic Journal videos; Harold Hofer for his exceptional event coordination and to Lance Gentry for his donation of the Izze Sparkling Juice that was enjoyed by many.
