Surfrider Chapters Rock!

MAKING WAVES, Dec.-Jan. 1998-99

Winston Churchill said, "The price of greatness is responsibility." If that holds true than we have the greatest people in the world volunteering for the Surfrider Foundation. The 42 chapters and organizing committees have taken responsibility for their local coastal environment, have said, "yes, it's time to give something back!"
Chapter members identify and choose problems which affect their local communities. By becoming involved in your local chapter or organizing a new chapter, you help prioritize the environmental issues within the Surfrider Foundation mission, which are important to you.
Volunteering in a Surfrider Foundation chapter is also very rewarding. You are directly achieving tangible improvements in your lives and the lives of others as well as affecting change with the powers that be. Active participation in a Surfrider Foundation chapter provides you with a vehicle to proactively bring a degree of environmental and social justice into the next century, ultimately moving public sentiment in a progressive action-oriented direction.
There are plenty of simple things you can do to help your grassroots chapter. Such as doing a tabling at an event, getting petitions signed or attending a city council meeting. There are many different levels of volunteerism available through our chapter network. It's not complicated and actually really enjoyable.
Write your local chapter, the contacts are listed here. By being a current member of the Surfrider Foundation, you're already half the way there (to become a member go here).
    Get involved locally, it rocks!
