Tired of toiling away doing your Monday-Friday, "daily grind"? Instead of plotting your next "get rich quick" scheme to escape from your cubicle forever, start to help protect the waves and beaches you love by supporting the Surfrider Foundation from your office chair! Bring Earth Share into your company. So the waves and beaches are clean and waiting for you, as soon as that clock turns to 5pm this summer! What is Earth Share? Earth Share was founded in 1988 by a group of 18 national environmental and conservation groups that saw the importance of forming America's first national environmental federation. These organizations were committed to making contributions to the environment as easy as possible, allowing employees to make donations through workplace payroll deduction campaigns. Earth Share raised approximately $4.5 million in its first year and now raises more than $8 million dollars per year for its members. The groups work on a wide variety of environmental concerns throughout California and the United States. Last year they raised over 2 million dollars in workplace campaigns in California alone. This money helped Earth Share of California agencies restore natural resources; safeguard human health by protecting our right to clean air, safe drinking water and free of harmful pesticides; and educate children about the magic of their environment. Opportunities for Employees In addition to proactively re-charting the course our environment is on by donating to Earth Share of California, employees will have the opportunity to participate in the "EARTH STARS" program involving hands-on volunteer projects to protect native plant life, restore local trails and California's majestic coastline, etc. They tailor these projects to meet the needs and interests of employees. So maybe you could actually get paid for cleaning the beaches you frequent! Diversifying Your Campaign Many of the campaigns run in conjunction with the United Way. They raise funds in a similar manner, but for entirely different charities. Earth Share represents all of the leading environmental agencies (including the Surfrider Foundation). There are several reasons why diversifying a campaign is beneficial. Employees, like us, appreciate having more choices in giving, and as a result we give more with greater satisfaction. Research and results show that it increases company spirit and participation in the campaign to have an environmental option. For example, when Earth Share was added to Kaiser Permanente's employee giving campaign overall contributions went up 67%! All You Have to Do Is Avoid actually doing your job, not only by checking your email numerous times a day in hopes that an old college friend has somehow gotten your address, but also by calling Melissa Mate at (949) 492-8170. Or better yet, delegate that call to someone in your Human Resource Department by going to their office and demanding that your company an Earth Share campaign in your Company. |
