Interested in checking out Project Niu?
The launch of the sensor Project Niu is May 8th at Waimea Bay from 10am to 1pm. Students will launch a sensor from Waimea Bay and learn what happens to things that enter the ocean there, such as pollution or elements from the watershed in the valley. The ultimate hope is to engage Hawaiis youth in environmentally sustainable practices while exciting them about science. Lessons relate to Native Hawaiian culture and their practices towards the environment, such as the system of ahupuaa. At the event, the students will do a beach cleanup, scientific observations, and a photo scavenger hunt. Also, there will be at least one guest speaker and very likely some local media /news.
