Executive Board Meeting Minutes Summary

Introductions:   Attendees each introduced themselves; four Surfrider national board members were present as well as Jim Moriarty, Executive Director, and Lia Colabello, International Coordinator, from the national staff. 
 
Business:

Kaisers/Bowls Access/Parking Problems: The DLNR Boating Division is planning on charging for parking at most of the current free parking areas; only parking at the 130 spots at the Heliport area will remain free; the other 917 stalls will be in paid parking areas.  The SR executive Board will draft a letter to the DLNR recommending that the current free parking be continued.

Intern Introductions:  Scott introduced the three interns, Ethan Chang (beach cleanups) and Dee Nguyen and Michael Gray (membership drive).

International Surfing Day:  June 21 at Tennis Courts at Ala Moana Park at 5:30PM.

Barefoot Wine June 30 Cleanup/Party:  A cleanup at Magic Island from 2:30 to 4:30PM followed (5;30 to 8:30PM) by a party at the Brew Moon.

Northwest Hawaiian Islands Research: Matt Dunlap briefed attendees on the need to continue NOAA research in spite of the Kahea arguments to do otherwise.

Spirit Sessions:  Marvin summarized the successful Spirit Session program in how it has been a positive experience for the girls who are in correctional programs run by the courts.

Wincubic (Aloha Street) partnership: Marvin and Scott discussed Wincubic’s promotion, generous donation, and involving their members in our beach clean-ups.

NOAA and CSO meeting: Envisioning the Future of Coastal Management: Stuart summarized what he learned from this meeting.

Rockabilly Party Fundraiser:  Kory and Tim summarized the party from which we received around $600 to $700.
Surfrider Board of Directors Meeting at Waimea Falls Park June 23.   Scott and Marvin will present a briefing on the need for a regional coordinator for the Hawaiian Chapters (Oahu, Kauai and Maui).

Ocean Friendly Gardens (new Surfrider program): Jim Moriarty briefed us on how this program can help reduce run-off
Roz Savage Pacific paddle:  Discussion on Roz’s solo paddle of the Pacific, and possible Surfrider sponsorship.  Jim to follow up with this.
