Coordinator- Discussion stemmed from which portion of the
whole salary should we pay if we’re working to get someone
for all islands. One view expressed was that Surfrider
National is a pretty righteous group and has earned our assistance
in getting a coordinator out here.
$10k from Barefoot Wines- Unanimous decision to write a check
to KTNSC for full amount.
Heavywater event- Jason gave a presentation on the event.
He assured Surfrider that every intention is to do this as a
fundraising event for Surfrider. The group agreed to start advertising
for an event around Dec 15. We need to focus on a theme.
First round of marketing will only say Surfrider/ Heavywater;
actual event name must be decided on.
Meeting location- Meeting turned out to be in the dining room
with a band playing nearby. Table was too long to hear
from one end to the other, little room for notes etc... as table
was set for dining. Manager claimed that he expected us
to purchase a certain amount of food and drink, which we did.
Without a signed guarantee that we could have the backroom with
no expectations, we should find another location for November.
Ryan mentioned the use of OHAs meeting room on Kapiolani near
to Shokudo. Scott suggested a beach gathering.
Kaiser Bowls- group unanimously rejects DOBORs proposal.
UH law group will research legal avenues. Grant &
Kory to help create a rally. Michelle will help to pursue
legal/ political concerns. Laura Thielen very concerned about
the image of public participation. Ed Underwood’s
“public meetings were not open for debate.
KIB discussion- Best to take an approach of putting together
a media piece either video or model of healthy reef = healthy
waves to display at event for IYOR. We should post our
events such as cleanups on the IYOR calendar.
New web developer- Michelle Walker may consider, check with
Neal from Surfboard shack.
Triple Crown- Kevin Seid taking a leadership role with Doug
Rodman to store booth. Should start with North Shore Festival
event. Marvin provided 4 other volunteers to Kevin.
Ryan said some Oha volunteers would likely get involved.
Announcements:
