Surfrider Oahu Chapter General Meeting Feb 26 Minutes

Introductions: All attendees introduced themselves.
Minutes of January 15th meeting reviewed/approved
Treasury report: $22,346.57 of which $10,500 is for Spirit Sessions.
Guest Speakers:
Guy Ragosta discussed an Enterococccus IDEXX water quality testing project in the Koolau watershed area streams; the exec committee approved his use of our IDEXX equipment.
Evan Rapoport from Archinetics discussed an NOAA education program titled Project Niu; he is teaching school children about the importance of respecting the environment and the impact the students can have on the watershed areas.
Chris Ostrander described the Hawaiian Islands Pacific Islands Integrated Ocean Observing System, a UH Sea Grant College Program; he discussed plans for ocean observations of currents, wind, wave heights/periods, temperatures, marine mammal and fish locations, and beach safety forcasts; a database system would be developed.
Business:
New Voluntary Coordinator Kory Payne was congratulated.
Turtle/Kawela Bay: Talk Story with Governor Lingle on March 4th at Kahuku High & Intermediate cafeteria over her idea for the State to purchase the Turtle bay properties.
Feb. Sand Island Cleanup with the Kukua Foundation was a big success with over 500 participants.
Beach cleanup March 8th at Army Beach with some Vanderbilt University students.
Next Meeting March 18 at Central Pacific Bank Building at Queen and Ward Streets
