2006 Longboard Team Challenge
37th St. Beach (Castle in the Sand)
Friday - Sunday, June 9-11th

WOW - What a weekend! Our 6th Longboard Team Challenge is history and congratulations to our three award winning teams:  Team Ashton repeats as champion and the perpetual “tiki” trophy is again on display at K-Coast’s 36th St. surf shop. Taking home the “WEDENTLUZE woodies” were the guys from Malibu Surf Shop-only single digits behind the champs. And certainly not least is the “team Kahiko” boys representing the Jersey Shore Chapter SRF. The quarters, semis and finals were super—top quality longboarding on every wave-congratulations and thanks to ALL competitors for adding your stoke to our event.

Our Friday night celebration of OC surf heritage and community was highlighted by the induction of John Collins, Blair Rhodes, John Phillips and “big” Carl Johnson into the “oc legends”-now there’s some surf history –congratulations and welcome aboard.

A huge ‘MAHALO’ to our sponsors Coconuts Beach Bar, Dan Hopkins & Quiksilver and Great Scott Broadcasting and, of course, our annual hosts –the Showell Family and the Castle in the Sand Hotel; without these folks we wouldn’t have a successful “SRF WKND.”

A real shout out to the staff-you folks not only made this a successful event but also very enjoyable. Mahalo to Doc & the judging corps; Randy & Bill, our time/flag & horn guys; and the efficient staff covering-registrations, tabulations, sales, setup/cleanup- a t-shirt is hardly thanks enough - Melissa, Stephanie, Jim, Debbie, Mike and Art. And a special thanks to OC Public Works and the OCBP crew. Kip and I want to express our gratitude to the rest of the organizing committee - Andrea @ Great Scott Broadcasting and Patricia of the Castle in the Sand for once again enabling us to present our recognizable “Longboard Team Challenge”
