SUNSET PARK DEDICATION Ocean City September 26, 2006
After
5 years of discussion, planning, development and construction, the Town
of Ocean City formally unveiled the new downtown “promenade.”
With plenty of sunshine, dignitaries, elected officials, staff and
friends, the Parks and Recreation Department opened its newest jewel.
Located between the Assawoman Bay and Boardwalk, Sunset Park is an
open, spacious one block pedestrian oasis with shaded, as well as
sunlit-benches, convenience building, environmentally sound walks,
decks and viewing areas intertwined with indigenous plants and grasses.
Adjacent to the US Coast Guard Station and across from the southern OC
Transit Station, the “park” is a relaxing destination with
ever-changing scenic water vistas and bay-scapes for not only the
resident pelican and gull, but all passers-by.
Along the northern perimeter of the park is a series of environmental
message plaques from national, state and local eco-groups taking the
reader from ocean to bay- as if crossing the barrier island itself. The
Ocean City Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation is proud to have played
a part in this development of Sunset Park through the Coastal Resources
Legislative Committee for the Town of Ocean City. We are pleased to add
our message of protection and
awareness.
