Lot's of Garbage in the Surfrider Foundation Bags
OCEAN CITY- Saturday, Feb. 2nd proved to be a picture perfect day at the beach for the Surfrider Foundation, O.C. Beach Patrol and Jr. Red Cross Club-Decatur Lifesaver's Dune Clean-up. A couple of hundred pounds of trash was collected within a 9 block stretch of dunes, between 48th -57th streets. Quite a bit of the trash included plastics and styro foam, which are not bio degradable and detrimental to the environment.  Decatur Lifesavers were joined by members of the SDHS Connections Club, during Saturday's clean up.

The Decatur Lifesaver's Jr. Red Cross Club will hold it's first three hour training certification course (Disaster Preparedness) on Tuesday, Feb. 5th from 3-6 p.m. The course will be instructed by the Lower Shore Chapter of the American Red Cross.  The Disaster Preparedness course will be followed by First Aid/CPR & AED certification courses on Feb. 24 & 25.  The Club extended an invitation to any Decatur teachers or administration who would like to participate in the training sessions.  The Jr. Red Cross Club members realize the importance of such valuable training and know that the more individuals who acquire lifesaving skills, the more lives that can potentially be saved.

This was an OC Surfrider clean water awareness initiative. Participants were eligible to earn community service credits.

The Surfrider Foundation USA is a non-profit environmental organization working to preserve our oceans, waves & beaches. Please become a Surfrider Foundation Member and get involved at a local Surfrider Foundation Chapter.
