Ola, Mi Amigo!, Gra-sea-us (hi, my friend, thanks).

That’s what every beachgoer to OC should be say’n to Terry our official “IN,” with the City and head of our “Footprints” program. He’s put those Spanish stickers on the blue trash barrels that fill the OC beaches.

Then he’s gone and attacked the back of OC’s trash trucks. Give the guy an extra wave in the line-up!

Bill Wise Memorial Paddle-Out
(9.22.38-2.23.07)

This morning, in Hawaiian tradition, the surf community said ALOHA to our friend and mentor, Bill Wise. Surfers, friends and family gathered at the beach at 37th St. to celebrate Bill's ocean-centered life. Through his articles in local papers and major surf periodicals and his photography, Bill shared his love of the ocean with his friends around the world. One of the earliest east coast surf shop owners, East Coast Surf Hall of Fame and OC Legend, Bill enjoyed life, family and surf. A lone antique “Hobie” surfboard floated beyond the break as the surfers formed the “circle of unity”. As the symbolic “pohaku” was placed in the ocean and a cheer of “aloha’ given, the family placed Bill’s ashes in the ocean Bill loved so much. As Bill always said -- "ALL GOOD."  Read the presentation by Randy (Makuakane) Myer.

Glenn Dale Golf Club owner, Jeff Shields, an OC Surfrider member, hosted this year's Western Shore Party. Aloha to a Friend, Bill Wise. "All Good"
The Ocean City surfing community will say "aloha" to one of it's originals, Mr. Bill Wise, on Feb 27th. Bill established one of the first surfboard shops on the East Coast in 1962, "the Eastern Surfer," with partner and friend, George Pittman, in Harrington, DE, and Ocean City, MD, and later in Rehobeth, DE. Wheel chair bound from a 1965 surfing accident, Bill was surfing's greatest fan and supporter, as well as photographer and writer. He mentored, through his enthusiasm, many of the first and second generation OC surfers. In 1996, "Wild Bill" was inducted in to the East Coast Surfing Legends Hall of Fame for his lifelong contributions to the sport.

Bill was also an original member of the "OC Legends" of the Ocean City Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, established in 2001. His stoke and love for the ocean and outdoors was boundless and his infectious smile will be missed at our annual event. But, as Bill would say, "ALL GOOD."

Area Surfrider Chapters and Surf Clubs
Paddle for Clean Water

Aloha,

On behalf of the OCMd Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, I'd like to thank all the participants in this year's successful "Circle of Solidarity" Clean Water Paddle:  The Surfrider Capitol and Delaware Chapters, DelMarVa ESA, Annapolis Surf Club, 62nd St. Longboard Club, Christian Surfers, and Ocean City Beach Patrol... plus, Kathy Phillips (former head of ESA, and candidate for office), Butch Arbin (head of the OCBP) and Alan Reed (Chairman of the Malibu Chapter), for their words and encouragement.

You have all demonstrated that surfers are responsible, active and accountable members of the community, and that as Margaret Mead stated, "Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. They are, in fact, the only ones that ever have." [See more pics here.]

Sept 2005 - Clean Water Paddles From Coast to Coast
In an effort to bring attention to the ongoing degradation of our coasts and oceans, the Surfrider Foundation holds an annual National Paddle For Clean Water Weekend. That weekend, Surfrider Foundation chapters across the country provide people the opportunity to rally at their favorite beach and paddle out to form a circle of solidarity to address their concerns and voice their opinions regarding the state of our coasts and oceans. The Capitol, Delaware and Ocean City Chapters partner in these paddle outs at local coastal beaches. For more information, visit the Surfrider Foundation's nationwide event website at: Surfrider's Paddle for Clean Water.

What state is your beach in?
Find out the answer to that and many other questions in Surfrider Foundation's 2005 State of the Beach report that was released on July 28th. The State of the Beach Report web site is fueled by a database of over 600 pages of great coastal information. The State of the Beach report is a deep coastal resource that's great for anyone with more than a passing interest in our coastal environment. Especially useful for Coastal Zone Managers, too. Read Surfrider's press release and also see the 2005 State of the Beach Report web site at: http://www.surfrider.org/stateofthebeach.
