Hello all... As the official "Storm Drain Coordinator" for Portland Surfrider I would like to announce a change from the normal "3rd Tuesday" catch basin marking get-together.

The official beginning of Fall (and the Autumnal Equinox) is only three days away and, therefore the sun has been setting earlier and earlier. Today the sun will set shortly after 7:00. Since we have been meeting at 6:30 to mark catch basins, that would not give us enough daylight to accomplish much.

My intention is cancel "Third Tuesday" immediately and to shift the CB marking to Saturdays. And this weekend I have decided it would be an excellent idea to combine OUR effort with that of the Friends of Vermont Creek and the City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services as part of a planned joint community effort. (see attachment)

The effort will take place THIS Saturday, September 24, and will occur between 9:30 and 11:30. Meet at the Watershed Resource Center located at the SW Community Center , 6820 SW 45th Ave. in Portland. The SW Community Center is at the corner of SW 45th Ave & SW Vermont St. If the weather is not conducive to marking ... meaning WET ... there will be a RAIN DATE of October 8

This event is open to all so please bring anyone you can think of ... even those you CAN'T think of! (adult supervision required for younger children) Plan to be there just a bit early and don't forget to wear your Surfrider apparel. See you there.

If you have questions about the event, please call 503-823-2682 If you need directions, give me a call at: 503-246-0780 h 503-936-8052 c

PS - My surf wagon is out of the shop and you won't be getting any of those carpool pleas from me anymore ... at least for a LONG TIME (I hope). But if any of YOU are in need of getting your gills wet, give me a call at the above numbers ... I just may be planning a run to the coast and have room for up to three.
