For more than 20 years, Kevin Ranker has worked on important conservation initiatives in the United States and internationally in Indonesia and Mexico. He concurrently serves as a Washington State Senator and a Partner at Coast Policy Group, a Seattle-based environmental consulting firm.
Kevin formally serves as an Advisor to the Executive Office of the President of the United States after receiving a White House appointment to serve as an Advisor on National Ocean Policy where, in 2015, he was appointed as Co-Chair of President Obama’s National Ocean Council Governance Coordinating Committee responsible for advising the President’s National Ocean Council. He is also a Strategic Advisor to the Meridian Institute in Washington, DC and is a Senior Fellow at the Ocean Foundation. Kevin also Previously, Kevin served as a consultant to the Pew Charitable Trusts, the Energy Foundation, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the Western Conservation Foundation, Environmental Defense Fund and others.
In the Washington State Senate, Kevin serves as Assistant Ranking Member on the powerful Ways and Means Committee where he is one of four Senators responsible for writing the Washington State Operational Budget.
Kevin is an avid surfer, runner, swimmer, sailor and fisherman. He lives on Orcas Island with his wife and daughter while his son proudly serves in the U.S. Army.
