Growing up on the Texas Gulf Coast, there were family vacations at the beach, with lots of cousins or family friends. We would rent a house for the week and the kids would stay out in the water so long that you could feel the waves pushing you about long after you were on dry land. As I got older, there were spring breaks, high school and college graduations, and long holiday weekends with my group of friends. After several years and a move to California my husband and I now take my daughter and son to the beach to share these same experiences. Whether it be an afternoon playdate or a weeklong vacation, the beach has always been a place for me to relax and spend time with family and friends, and I want my children to have that same connection to the beach as I do.
Since 1998, I have been the Controller at the Surfrider Foundation. I am responsible for tracking and reporting the finances of the organization, as well as HR benefits administration. While a typical accounting career may be far from what most would consider exciting or rewarding, working for Surfrider has been anything but typical. I am fortunate to work with a diverse group of smart and creative co-workers, board members and volunteers, all who unite under one mission…healthy coasts. At the end of the day, I feel like I have done more than "count beans"; I have done my little part to save something that is special to me and my family.
